Permaculture & Food Forest.
A landscape that grows, feeds, and continues to develop itself.
As in nature itself.
Under the old oaks at Landgoed De Meerberg, a food forest is in development. Fruit trees, nut trees, berry bushes, herbs, and climbers work together in layers, just like in a natural forest.
Permaculture is the guiding principle: we design with nature. This creates a landscape that bears fruit, provides a home for biodiversity, and becomes richer year after year.
Walk the paths, smell the herbs, taste if the season allows. The food forest is there to experience, to learn from, and to develop together.

The three ethical principles of permaculture.
Care for the earth
Healthy soil, biodiversity, and closed loops as a starting point.
Care for people
A landscape that feeds, provides peace, and brings people together.
Fair share
We share the yield with care for people, animals and the land.
At De Meerberg we add something self-evident to that: moving with the seasons.

Walk, learn, and work with us.
There are various ways to experience the food forest up close:
- Tours by appointment or during an open estate day.
- Volunteering: working in the food forest, one or more half-days per month.
- Workshops on permaculture, pruning, harvesting, and processing (on the agenda).
- Learning spots and day activities in collaboration with partners.
From food forest to kitchen.
What the food forest and kitchen garden produce, we use in the kitchen of De Meerberg. Once the shiitake nursery produces again, that harvest will join in. This completes the circle: from soil to plate, in one landscape.
